THERAPEUTIC ADHERENCE IN ADULT PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS. A SCOPING REVIEW

Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by high blood glucose levels, which in the long term causes severe damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. Objective: To analyze the available scientific evidence regarding therapeutic adherence in adult patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: Research constructed based on guidelines (PRISMA ScR) and manuals (JBI), with search in Pubmed, Scopus, LILACS, Scielo and Google Scholar databases. The evidence selection process was carried out individually with the use of Rayyan Software, with blinding activated, any type of methodological design. There was no restriction as to language or year of publication, a total of 15 studies were included. Results: It was determined that the lack of adherence is related to factors, this implies that the level of schooling is a predominant factor, sex and age, the female population confirms epidemiological trends at national and international level of poor therapeutic adherence. Conclusions: Therapeutic adherence is a global problem that was highlighted in the scientific evidence analyzed from various studies compiled, it shows that the population studied was adherent with a relevant significant in the female sex and the factors related to the therapeutic regimen are strongly associated with poor adherence.
