Editorial Policies
JESSE adheres to international standards of scientific quality and editorial ethics, as established by organizations such as COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), DOAJ, Scopus, and Web of Science.
Publishing Protocols and Guidelines
Our journal adheres to the following international standards and guidelines to ensure the quality, transparency, and reproducibility of the scientific articles we publish:
FAIR Principles
We actively promote compliance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) for data and digital resources associated with research. We encourage authors to share their datasets, source code, and supplementary materials in ways that allow other researchers to reuse them.
TOP Guidelines (Transparency and Openness Promotion)
We recommend following the TOP guidelines, especially regarding:
1. Transparency in methodology and experimental design.
2. Availability of data, software, and protocols.
3. Pre-registration of computational experiments (when applicable).

TCR (Ten Simple Rules for Reproducible Computational Research)
For studies involving simulations, modeling, machine learning, or intensive computational analysis, we suggest consulting the “Ten Simple Rules for Reproducible Computational Research” (Sandve et al., 2013) as a practical guide to ensure traceability and replicability of results.
Suggested checklist:
1. Documentation of the execution environment.
2. Version control for data and code.
3. Automation of analysis and figure generation.
4. Inclusion of scripts and public repositories.
EQUATOR Network – STRESS Guidelines
For engineering studies involving simulation or structured experimental testing, we recommend following the STRESS guidelines (Strengthening the Reporting of Empirical Simulation Studies), which improve consistency and clarity in the reporting of technical studies.
IEEE Standards for Publishing and Data Sharing
In alignment with IEEE best practices, we suggest that authors:
1. Use persistent identifiers for datasets (e.g., DOIs).
2. Include clear usage licenses (e.g., MIT, CC-BY).
3. Standardize technical nomenclature and described architectures.
Additional Recommendation for Authors:
Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that you have included:
1. Access to source code (e.g., via GitHub, GitLab, or Zenodo).
2. A reproducible description of the test or simulation environment (e.g., Docker containers, Jupyter notebooks).
3. The metrics used and a justification for their selection.
4. An explicit discussion of the technical, energy-related, or social sustainability of the proposed solution, if applicable.
Commitment to Quality
The entire editorial process at JESSE is aimed at ensuring the publication of original, rigorous, and high-quality research that makes a relevant contribution to the field of intelligent, sustainable, and applied engineering for solving real-world challenges.
