Abstract

Introduction: The Da Vinci robot has revolutionized modern surgery by enabling highly precise, minimally invasive procedures in various medical specialties such as urology, oncology, gynecology, and digestive surgery. This article analyzes recent literature on its use, efficacy, safety, and limitations in terms of accessibility and costs. Objective: To analyze the Da Vinci robot in surgery. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted according to the PRISMA2020 guideline, in databases such as Scopus and PubMed, considering original articles published between 2020 and 2024. Thirty open-access, full-text studies in Spanish and English were included, excluding review articles, theses, and duplicates. The information collected was organized into analysis tables under the criteria of four PICO questions to facilitate the interpretation of the results. Results: Among the main findings were: the Da Vinci robot has been successfully applied in nephrectomies, prostatectomies, hysterectomies, and tumor resections; a significant reduction in postoperative pain and hospitalization time has been reported; and acquisition and maintenance costs are the main limitation to its accessibility in developing countries. Conclusions: Da Vinci robot-assisted surgery is an effective tool in modern medical practice. Its precision and reduced postoperative impact make it a preferred option in many procedures, although its high cost remains a challenge for its widespread adoption. Further research into its cost-benefit ratio and strategies to improve its global accessibility is recommended
