Student desertion is the abandonment of the career in which a student enrolls due to the influence of positive or negative factors, or due to internal or external circumstances. The present study analyzes the main causes that cause the desertion of the students of the Technical University of Ambato of the careers of Accounting and Audit, Economy, Marketing and Management of Businesses, Marketing, Organization of Companies and Administration of Companies. The most important results indicate that the abandonment of the studies is related to the economic and personal scope, in addition there must be an adequate motivation and academic tutoring. The methodology used was obtained through direct observation, surveys and data analysis to the students of the aforementioned careers, with a qualitative and quantitative approach that allowed an exploratory data analysis to establish the causes of desertion.
