Abstract

Introduction: Cancer, one of the most significant non-communicable diseases worldwide, carries various repercussions in the patient's life, especially in the emotional aspect. Objective: To identify the scientific evidence that exists regarding the different psychological assessment instruments for patients diagnosed with cancer. Methods: A scoping review was carried out following the methodological recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute, and the guidelines of the PRISMA ScR guide were followed for the preparation of the report. Three databases and grey literature were searched systematically, and studies were selected using Rayyan Systems software independently by both reviewers. Extracted data were analysed using basic quantitative and basic qualitative deductive content analysis. Results: 30 studies were identified that met the inclusion criteria; these instruments were grouped into categories according to the mental disorder they measure, this taking the DSM-5 as a reference, all instruments presented acceptable validity and internal consistency for use in oncology patients. Conclusions: This review highlights the importance of psychological assessment in cancer patients and provides useful guidance for selecting appropriate instruments. These findings contribute to the improvement of the comprehensive approach to cancer patients and strengthen psychological care in this context.
