Mesenteric Ischemia: On the subject of a case

Abstract

Mesenteric Ischemia is a challenge for health personnel because it is difficult to diagnose early and offers high mortality. Although the clinic is a fundamental pillar always complementary tests will be necessary to provide an early diagnosis and an appropriate treatment of the patient. A 62-year-old male patient, born and living in Ambato, a divorcee, secondary education, a mechanic by profession, with a history of COPD, a history of smoking for 40 years, and allergy to penicillin, is presented. It presents with non-specific abdominal pain, 48 hours of evolution. The determination of laboratory and imaging tests showed no significant alterations. It was decided to perform Exploratory Laparotomy, due to the suspicion of Mesenteric Vascular Occlusion, confirming a preoperative diagnosis and an Intestinal Resection with Termino-Terminal Anastomosis. The present case forces us to make an early diagnosis of mesenteric ischemia, despite the difficulties of access to the latest technology and which is a pathology difficult to diagnose, it is necessary to perform it in a timely manner so that patients suffering from this condition receive the most Adequate and in this way improves their survival.
