Introduction: Ovarian cysts are the third most important cause of intra-abdominal masses after the renal and gastrointestinal systems. The main concern with this diagnosis is the possible complications (torsion, rupture, hemorrhage and compression of other viscera) that could put the life of the fetus or newborn at risk.
Objective: To describe a clinical case of a congenital ovarian cyst found in the fetus at 33.4 weeks of gestation in a patient at Hospital PROVIDA - Latacunga.
Results: We present a case of a 37 years old female patient, who achieved pregnancy under reproductive techniques. At 33.4 weeks of gestation, a hypoechoic image of 46*39*46 mm with regular borders is evidenced in the left ovarian fossa, ultrasound follow-up is performed during the prenatal period without visualizing alterations in the renal system. It was decided to terminate the pregnancy at 38.4 weeks due to previous uterine scarring, a live newborn was obtained at term, female, in good general condition. Postnatal ultrasound reports a cyst dependent on the left ovarian parenchyma of 17*12*11 mm.
Conclusion: When diagnosed with a congenital ovarian cyst, a conservative attitude should be adopted, that is., observation and follow-up, since most of them may involute or reappear after surgery.
