The use of hydrocolloid patches is recommended to prevent pressure ulcers in critically ill patients. Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence on the application of hydrocolloid patches in patients in the ICU as a prevention strategy against the formation of pressure ulcers. Materials and methods: Descriptive qualitative systematic review in which articles published in prestigious journals were analyzed, performing a search based on a PICO question in the PubMed, Scielo, and Trip Database databases with a maximum age of 10 years. Results: Seven articles were evaluated, all of which were quantitative with different designs; 42.8% of them were randomized clinical trials, 28.6% were systematic reviews, 14.3% prospective observational and the other 14.3% descriptive observational. 72% of the reviewed studies indicated that the hydrocolloid patch fulfills its function in the prevention of pressure ulcers, however the cost it represents is higher than other dressings. Conclusions: Hydrocolloid patches are an ideal option to prevent pressure injuries in patients hospitalized in the ICU
