 ABSTRACT:

This paper is a retrospective investigation, documentary, analytical valuation of surgical site infection in patients undergoing surgery in the Andean Alternative Chimborazo Hospital in the period from 2004 to 2011, in which 448 were subjected surgical procedures, excluding interventions Gynecology and Plastic Surgery for this evaluation we used the NNIS System (National Nosocomial Infec- tion Surveillance), for which data were taken from the patient’s clinical history, the results in 17 patients had infection operative site, representing 3.7% of all cases reviewed. In addition to the cases presented microbiological studies were conducted at 17 patients, predominantly in their crops Staphylococcus aureus. It also determined that patients enrolled with an emergent situation, ASA 3 or higher, and have a longer duration of two hours, have higher incidence of ISO (Surgical Site Infection). It is noteworthy that the prevalence rate of ISO is the best indicator to assess the quality of a surgical center. And NNIS System is a convenient tool to reduce surgical site infection that so bring with us to this institution with valuable information to help you make the necessary steps to quality care.
