Clinical-Epidemiological characteristics of COVID 19 patients in the operating units of the Health District 05D06, Salcedo County

Abstract

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has produced more than 700,000 deaths in the world, affecting different age groups and sex. Objective: To describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of patients with COVID-19 treated in the operational units of the 05D06 Health District located in the Salcedo city, Cotopaxi province. Descriptive study carried out in the Salcedo canton, Health District 05D06, which includes 419 positive patients for COVID-19, diagnosed by RT-PCR from March to June 2020. The clinical history, epidemiological records were analyzed, looking for sociodemographic variables, clinical manifestations, laboratory, and patient evolution. 419 cases were identified, 56% were male, 44.6% were between 20 and 40 years of age, 21% carried out agricultural and commercial activities, 40% of patients are from the central sector of Salcedo County assigned to the existing type B Health Center in the sector. The most frequent symptoms included: cough, malaise, fever and odynophagia. 93% of the patients presented mild to moderate symptoms and received analgesic and antipyretic treatment; The cases that required hospitalization in more complex units and recovered were 29 and those who presented serious symptoms and died were 19, males, over 46 years of age, agricultural work activities, merchants. This report presents the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 patients in the Health District 05D06 Salcedo, it was more frequent in males, aged 20 to 40 years, farmers and merchants, with frequent symptoms, cough and general malaise, who live in sectors of Salcedo, this data will be used to work with the risk groups that make up the economically active population in a timely manner
