Abstract

Introduction: In the late 80's and early 90's, minimally invasive procedures began to be deepened and in 1991 the first laparoscopic splenectomy (EL) was reported. Currently, this technique is the standard for performing splenecs due to the advantages it presents in relation to the open technique.

Objective: Describe the clinical case of a patient with splenomegaly who was performed laparoscopic splenectomy without complications.

Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study, clinical case presentation.

Results: The clinical case of a male patient of 14 years, with prior diagnosis of hereditary spherocytosis and history of several hemolytic seizures accompanied by jaundice. WAS was performed by finding a 17.29 cm spleen and an accessory spleen 2cm in diameter. Despite the large size of the spleen, the procedure was completed via laparoscopic by performing a mini laparotomy for the exit of the spleen.

Conclusions: Laparoscopic splenectomy can be performed safely following protocols indicated for splenomegaly.
