Abstract

The competitive global environment requires from companies to satisfy the market demands, that must be aligned with manufacturing strategies, whose competitive priorities are: quality, cost, delivery, flexibility and service, with their specific sub-dimensions. In this research, the competitive priorities of the garment sector in the sierra region of Ecuador in 2018 were determined and weighted, through a procedure validated by Sarache, Marrero y Hernandez, and with a multi-criteria analysis, by surveys carried out with experts in this sector; In addition, it was created a performance effectiveness indicator, which considers the priorities defined by the experts and it was applied in the evaluation of three large companies and one SME in the sector. The results of the competitive priorities were, quality (33%), cost (28%), delivery (17%), service (12%) and flexibility (9%). The performance effectiveness indicator required by the market is 5 and the results of large companies reach a value between 2,4 and 3,0 and the SME reach a value of 1,73 out of 5, which shows differences among the companies. The evaluation of performance and results in each of the priorities, constitutes a quantitative guide and to use in the continuous improvement of companies.
