Pyoderma Gangrenosum.

Abstract

Introduction: Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by necrotic and
painful ulcers, sometimes associated with a variety of systemic diseases. The annual global incidence of PG is
estimated at 3 to 10 cases per million inhabitants.

Objective: Describe the clinical approach of a patient diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum.

Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study, clinical case presentation of Pyoderma ganfrenosum.

Results: The clinical case of a 60-year-old male patient with a left lower limb ulcer, referred from the vascular
surgery service to dermatology, where after histopathological result, is diagnosed as a difficult gangrene
pyoderma management.

Conclusions: Although ulcers of vascular origin are the most common in lower limbs, in the presence of an
atypical ulcer we should investigate other possible rare causes, including PG as it was evident in the clinical
case an erroneous management easily preventable chronicity and morbidity. Pathological clinical correlation is important. Treatment is based on topical or systemic immunosuppression of the patient and is largely

required for prolonged treatments.
