Abstract

Introduction: Primary hyperparathyroidism is a pathologyoften asymptomatic and without a diagnosis and prompttreatment can lead to metabolic disorders, with extensivelyticzones, which may beconfused with secondary injuries to a neoplastic process.

Objectives: To describe a clinical case of pathologicalfracture associated with primary hyperparathyroidism.

Material and methods: retrospective descriptive study, clinical case presentation.

Results: We report a case in the teacher Ambato GeneralHospital of a 54 years old patient with fracture peri left hip prosthetic is evidenced by xray plates images of lytic areasof the long bones and skull images in the form ofsalt Peppersuggestive ofprimary hyperparathyroidism treatment of thispathology is to treat the underlying disease and fracturepathological to treat it timely and effective way for a promptreturn of the patient to his previous activity.

Conclusions: The diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism shouldbe considered before all pathological fracture anddifferential diagnosis of secondary bone lesions.
