Palliative surgical alternative for choledochal cyst with malignant degeneration in elderly patient
Main Article Content
Abstract
The choledochal cyst is a low-incidence entity, with an etiology still under study, prevalent in childhood and juvenile populations, being a rarity in the adult age group, with a greater emphasis on elderly patients. It is implicated in the development of cholangiocarcinoma in adults and in acute entities that can endanger the patient's life: acute cholangitis. We present a case of an elderly patient with poor general condition, who came to the Emergency Service of General Docente Ambato Hospital this year, referring to severe colic type abdominal pain in the right hypochondrium, jaundice and febrile syndrome, being decided to operate by a table of biliary cholestasis secondary to colehnotic cyst, which, through a later histopathological study, reveals mucinous adenocarcinoma of the extrahepatic biliary tract. The case proposes a brief review of the related literature, in addition to illustrating a palliative surgical option for patients with similar comorbidities.
