HIV-AIDS unusual condition in pediatric population.

Abstract

Introduction: The HIV infection in Pediatrics has undergone favorable changes, due to the fact that, nowadays,
hardly any infected children are born due to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission protocols. In
addition, thanks to the treatment of children with HIV, they are fully integrated into daily life, with a full life
and without differences with respect to a non-HIV child.

Objective: Describe a clinical case of HIV-AIDS in pediatric age.

Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study, presentation of a clinical case of HIV-AIDS in pediatric
age.

Results: Pre-school, female, 2 years, personal pathological history: hospitalization at 9 months for viral encephalitis
and pneumonia, nonreactive HIV; one year old hospitalized for H1N1 Influenza, Pneumonia complicated
with pericardial effusion with nonreactive HIV. She consulted for presenting erythematous-based
vesicles in the frontal region, accompanied by itching, purulent yellow discharge, pain and left eye edema.
Adenopathy of 2 x 1cm is palpable in the left preauricular region. Fourth generation HIV screening: reactive,
confirmatory fourth generation HIV by electrochemiluminescence of 474,800. As treatment, she received
intravenous antibiotic, intravenous and topical antiviral, intravenous analgesia, oral antihistamine, attended
with remission of crusted lesions 24 hours after treatment, and was referred to the Third Level Hospital to
start antiretroviral treatment.

Conclusions: In the child with HIV, health checks must be carried out, inculcating healthy eating and exercise
habits, as well as receiving the complete vaccination schedule, vaccination being indicated against: pneumococcus,
meningococcus, papillomavirus, chickenpox, hepatitis A and influenza. seasonal. Without antiretrovirals
(ART), HIV infection causes a deterioration of the immune system, so that the child presents: repeated
bacterial infections, medro failure, neurological involvement and decreased life expectancy.
