Abstract

Introduction: The 5 fluorouracil is an analog of pyrimidine whose ability to reduce proliferation fibroblastic and healing it have become an important complement to various ocular and periorbital surgery

Objectives: Carry out a systematic review of the literature in the period 2014-2018 on the results of the application of the treatment with 5FU in ophthalmology.

Material and methods: an article of systematic review of the literature of the period 2014-2018 on the results of the application of the treatment was performed with 5FU in ophthalmology. Descriptive statistical methods were used.

Results: 21 articles published in indexed journals were reviewed. The results of the review of the potentialities of the treatment with 5FU in ophthalmology showed significant benefits. Patients receiving this treatment showed absence of relapses of the disease in a minimum of 6 months post-surgery, depending on the type of surgical procedure and existing eye disease.

Conclusions: The introduction of treatment with 5FU in ophthalmology offers advantages over other therapeutic procedures and reducestumor recurrence.
