Humanized nursing care in the attention of patients admitted in the public hospitals of the city of Milagro – Ecuador

Abstract
Introduction. Humanized nursing care implies an interdisciplinary work, which should be subject to permanent evaluation in order to provide a competent and integral service. The main objective of this work was to describe the type of humanized care offered by nursing personnel in the care of patients admitted to public hospitals in the city of Milagro, Ecuador. Material and Methods. The research was observational, descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional. The Evaluation of nursing care behaviors (ECCOE) instrument, adapted by Morales-Castillo et al. was applied to the nursing staff working in the internal medicine hospitalization area of the public hospitals of the city of Milagro. Results. Thirty-five professionals were studied, showing that the level of perception of the dimensions of humanized care is optimal in most cases, with the exception of the dimension of expression of positive or negative feelings, which presents a moderate level. Discussion. There are few studies on the subject in the region and the world, the present study being a pilot in the country, and its results differ from those found in other countries of the region. Conclusions. The humanized care provided by the nursing staff to patients admitted to public hospitals in the city of Milagro is optimal, so we can say that the nursing staff of public hospitals in this city has standards of care that are above those found in the region
