Abstract

Bipolar affective disorder is a very common mental pathology that is characterized by changes in affect with alternating manic and depressive episodes separated by euthymic periods and often with rapid cycles that hinder the course and treatment. This is a quasi-experimental, longitudinal and descriptive study whose objective was to determine the clinical evolution with hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment as complementary therapy. A case is presented of a woman with psychiatric pathology, bipolar affective disorder type II, who was admitted to the outpatient oxygen therapy program of the University Hyperbaric Research Unit, with a 16-week follow-up of symptoms, using the clinical global impression scale. modified for bipolar treatment (CGI-BP-M) weekly, in addition to an initial and final evaluation applying the Beck Depression Inventory together with the Hypomania Checklist-32 (HCL-32). Despite the low statistical significance and the appearance of uncontrolled variables that affected the completion of the total number of sessions proposed, favorable changes were evident during the follow-up period, especially in some clinical aspects other than those evaluated with the scales. measurement
