Effectiveness of rhythm therapy on cognitive functions during isolation Covid-19

Abstract

Introduction: In the year 2020 the OMS recognizes presence of SARS-Cov-2 virus as   pandemic, entities governmental adopted confinement measures to safeguard the health of older adults (AM), isolation social is related to the deterioration of cognitive functions, it was necessary to implement Rhythm Therapy (RT) to improve their lifestyle.


Objective: To establish the effectiveness of therapy rhythm about cognitive functions in older adults during confinement by Covid-19.


Methods and Material:  I was realized   research with a quantitative and quasi-experimental the intervention was approved by the bioethics committee of the Technical University of Ambato.   In this research participated twenty adults aged 65 years or older, who signed the informed consent form; I applied 12 rhythm therapy sessions of 45 minutes once a week, evaluating the deterioration by means of the Minimental test before and after the intervention. For the statistical analysis, I was used the SPSS version 25.0 computer system and I was applied Wilcoxon statistical test.


Results: In the initial evaluation presented the normal AM cognitive functions (30-27) with 45%, 25% with pathological suspicion (26-24), 25% impairment, (23-12) and only 5% dementia (9-11). However, post-intervention, I was observed positive effects on cognitive functions, representing normal 85%, pathological suspicion10% and deterioration 5%.  I am observed that the RT technique was effective for cognitive impairment at post-intervention with a significant difference of 5%, P=0.004.


Conclusion: The intervention is improved cognitive functions in the older adult population, providing them an active and healthy elderly.
