Admissions for an autolytic attempt at the Puyo General Hospital

Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization approximately one million people in the world die by suicide every year, which is equivalent to one death every 40 seconds. In Ecuador in the last 15 years some 13,024 people committed suicide, of which 28.5 percent are women while 71.5 are men, the percentage of cases is increasing and depression is one of the main causes, in health systems there is a subestim Of the autolytic attempts which hinders the collection of data for research projects. About 44.931 cases of inflicted poisoning with an average of 6,418 cases per year and a progressive increase of 2,123 cases throughout the period. The general prevalence rate of poisonings was 82.25 of 10.000 admissions/high.

Objective: Estimating the frequency of hospital admissions by autolytic intent at the Puyo General Hospital from January to December 2017. Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study, in patients who have admitted to the internal Medicine service of the Puyo General Hospital, the frequency of the total of the patients admitted in a period of January-December will be calculated and data relating to the age, sex , marital status, ethnicity, demographic situation, instruction, date of entry, for which total hospital discharges will be extracted by selecting only those who at the exit have a diagnosis of autolytic intent under the ICD-10 X60 to X84.

Results: During the study period (2017), 649 patients were admitted to internal medicine of which 68 patients correspond to the diagnosis of autolytic intent equivalent to 10% of the general population admitted.

Conclusion: En el Hospital General Puyo en el año 2017 ingresaron 10.4% de pacientes con diagnóstico de intento autolítico. Los cuales se deben a multicausalidad. La mayoría mujeres (61.76%) sin diagnóstico de patología psiquiátrica previa. Predominó el estado civil soltero
