Respiratory distrés in Covid-19: epidemiology, physiopathology and its ventilatory management.

Abstract

Introduction COVID-19 is a pathology of great importance because of the current context of the pandemic
due to its lethality linked in part to the respiratory distress it produces, therefore an informed approach to
world literature is necessary to be able to deal with it properly.


Objective: Evaluate studies on SDRA in COVID-19 through a systematic review prioritizing the degree of
evidence and therefore unifying knowledge about this pathology and its ventilatory management.


Material and methods: An active search for scientific articles 2019-2020 was conducted in international indexed
databases such as PubMed, Elsevier, The Lancet, Springer, Jama, New England Journal of Medicine
and Wiley. Where clinical practice guides, systematic reviews, meta analysis, case reports, bulletins and international
reports were found that were subjected to a process of inclusion and exclusion based on the
GRADE, STROBE and PICO systems to ensure the level of evidence and reduce the risk of bias.


Results: A total of 74 scientific articles were obtained, which after the methodology protocol were excluded
44, the remaining ones that met the quality standards in epidemiology, physiopathology, respiratory distress
and ventilatory management. Unfortunately the information was scarce however published expert opinions
were used to support the topic.


Conclusions: This systematic review analyzed and consolidated current knowledge in global literature on
COVID-19 and acute respiratory distress syndrome focusing on epidemiology, physiopathology and its ventilatory
management to raise the quality of medical care during the pandemic.
