Psychosis as a clinical expression of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in an Adolescent.

Abstract
Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is considered an autoimmune disease with a chronic evolution and associated with multisystem failure, with complex clinical manifestations. 20% of SLE in pediatric age present with severe clinical symptoms, with a higher rate of cases in female adolescents. Nervous system involvement is an underdiagnosed or confused manifestation with other diagnoses and is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in this type of patient.
Objective: Discriminate the different clinical expressions of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in pediatric age.
Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study presenting a clinical case.
Results: The case of a 13-year-old, 6-month-old adolescent, who entered the Pediatric Service of the General
Ambato Hospital with a picture characterized by loss of consciousness, headache, psychomotor agitation,
auditory hallucinations, delirium and facial redness, the gear, is presented. from the clinic and complementary guides the diagnosis of Lupus Psychosis or Neurolupus.
Conclusions: For years Neurolupus has gone unnoticed or was treated as acute thrombotic episodes of the
cerebral vasculature, underestimating its impact on mortality and quality of life, without proposing a timely
and sustained treatment. Neuropsychiatric lupus erythematosus involves diverse expressions of neurological
and psychiatric signs and symptoms, complicating diagnosis and treatment, the prognosis is unfortunately
unfortunate.
