Adherence to treatment in a cute respiratory diseases in children

Abstract

Introduction: The treatment adherence in acute respiratory diseases among children is a controversial topic. This is because it is influenced by several factors, in which the most remarkable are factors associated to the patient, environmental factors, factors associated to the medicine, factor from the interaction doctor and patient. All of these factors have a direct influence to the patient and cause a harmful effect in the quality of life of the child in his future.


Objective: To identify risky factors and the impact of the therapeutic adherence in acute respiratory diseases among children.


Material and methods: Through a systematic and bibliographic review, the search of several studies is carried out in a period of time of five years, with bibliography in English and Spanish, whose theme is “Treatment adherence in respiratory diseases”. In order to obtain information, this research work used different search engines such as Pubmed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and The Cochrane, determining the data that contributes to identify factors that affect the therapeutic adherence, being direct and indirect related to the patients and their environment.Results: This research determined that the problem is affected by factors associated with the patients and their environment, having an influence in the non-therapeutic adherence in high respiratory diseases, as well as the presence of complications and antibiotic resistance.


Conclusions: Several years have passed and high figures are still maintained due to the lack of therapeutic adherence, which has become a worrying global factor because of the future consequences that this entails. The treatment adherence inacute respiratory diseases is influenced by the various factors that affect the patient, in the aspects of the disease and the implications that are produced such as recurrent respiratory infections, multi-resistant germs, as well as medical errors that can be produced like higher doses, unnecessary procedures or the change of medical drugs because of the lack of knowledge at taking the right medication.
