FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ABANDONMENT OF BREASTFEEDING. A SYSTEMATIC SCOPING REVIEW.

Abstract

Introduction: Breastfeeding is the optimal way to feed infants, offering them the necessary nutrients, as well as providing them with greater protection against disease. Objective: To identify the factors associated with the abandonment of breastfeeding. Methods: The protocol was constructed according to the PRISMA ScR guidelines and the JBI manuals. The search for information was conducted in the databases: PUBMEB, SciELO LILACS, Dialnet; from the use of descriptors and the Boolean AND computer. Once identified, they were screened according to the eligibility criteria and those that answered the research question were selected. Results: 363 articles were identified, of which 12 articles were finally obtained, showing that the main factors associated with breastfeeding cessation are: low breast milk production, cracked nipples, mastalgia, use of bottles and pacifiers, return to work, incorporation into student life and lack of knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding. Conclusion: Breastfeeding abandonment is a multifactorial problem where situations related mainly to the mother are strongly linked to breastfeeding abandonment.
