EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS FOR THE PROMOTION OF BREASTFEEDING IN WOMEN IN THE PRE AND POSTNATAL PERIOD
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: globally, less than half of newborns are breastfed within the first hour of life; the absence of this practice negatively impacts their health. Therefore, education on breastfeeding is crucial for child development and to reduce morbidity associated with early weaning. Objective: to analyze the scientific evidence related to educational interventions to promote breastfeeding in women during the pre and postnatal periods. Methods: the scoping review followed the guidelines of Arksey & O’Malley, the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), and the PRISMA checklist adapted for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). An exhaustive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, SciELO, and Google Scholar. The selection of evidence was carried out using the RAYYAN software. Data extraction was developed through a basic quantitative analysis and a qualitative content analysis with a deductive approach. Results: a total of 35 studies were analyzed. Educational interventions were classified according to the intervention period: prenatal, postnatal, or pre and postnatal, as well as according to the target group of the strategy: individual or group. Conclusions: scientific evidence supports the positive impact of educational interventions for the promotion of breastfeeding.
