Abstract

Introduction: High blood pressure is the most widespread cardiovascular disease and alsoa common cause of surgery suspensions. Within these suspensions the largest percentage corresponds to the elderly and represents a cost to health institutions. In its pathophysiological substrate there is vascular hyperreactivity to surgical stress. This paper evaluates the value of the Cold Stimulation Test to diagnose the state of tension hyperreactivity, identify the elderly normotensive hyperreactor and as a guide for the prescription of hypotensive drugs.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Cold Stimulation Test for the diagnosis of stress hyperreactivity to surgical stress in hypertensive elderly people.

Material and methods: Development work followed by an evaluation of the technology. It is an explanatory study of experimental, longitudinal and prospective cutting with deliberate intervention. The Cold Stimulation Test was performed on 1300 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Results: PEF1 was positive in 1280 patients (84.76%). PEF2 was negative in 1224 (81.05%). These 1300 patientswere operated on and had a perioperative within normal limits. Zeroing of the operating suspensions. Treatment with cardioselective beta blockers was used in 97.2% of patients.

Conclusion: The Cold Stimulation Test showed its diagnostic efficacy of tensional hyperreactivity in the elderly hypertension, decreases the surgical suspensions for Arterial Hypertension in the elderly, prevents undesirable complications by HTA and does not involve too many resources above what any major surgical intervention uses. Applying the test and using beta cardioselective blockers have low cost.
