Talonavicular arthrodesis in neurological foot planavalgus case report.

Abstract

Introduction: Neurological flatfoot valgus is cammon in children and adoles-cents with cerebral palsy (CP). In this foot deformity, the heel is in valgus, the foretoot in hyperpronation and abduction with respect to the hindfoot, accom-panied by equinus due to horizontalization of the calcaneus.


Objetive: to describe the use of Blount staples as an alternative treatment for talonavicular arthrodesis in neurological flatfood and improvement of gait biomechanics.


Material and Methods: Retrospective descriptive study presenting a clinical surgical case fromt the Dr. Roberto Gilbert Elizalde children’s hospital in the city of Guayaquil – Ecuador.


Results: Good results were obtained in the biomechanics of gait when performing talonavicular arthrodesis with Blount staples in a 16-year-old patient with neurological flat feet


Conclusion: the technique of talonavicular arthrodesis with serrated Blount staples described is a safe and effective procedure that guarantees good radiological and clinical results in patients with neurological flatfoot valgus in adolescent patients affected by CP.
