PERSONAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL BACKGROUND OF NURSING STUDENTS IN A HOSPITAL IN VENEZUELA DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 is the disease caused by the new coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2. They are a large family of viruses that can cause various conditions, from the common cold to more serious illnesses. Objective: Analyze personal and epidemiological background of nursing students in a hospital in Venezuela during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: It is a clinical epidemiological, analytical, non-experimental, cross-sectional study, which is argued in the line of research: Quality of life, the population was made up of a total (164) undergraduate students of the nursing career, an intentional probabilistic sampling was applied, leaving the sample represented by (80) 49% who voluntarily expressed their participation. A questionnaire was used. The socio-clinical-epidemiological variables, pathological history of vaccination, types of vaccine and compliance with the scheme were assessed. Results: the average age was 21.6 years, the female sex predominated with 78.7% (n=63), 63.8% (n=51) came from the Girardot Municipality, 75.1% (n=60 ) completed the third year of nursing, the area of ​​knowledge was Adult Emergency in 35.1% (n=28). Among the personal and epidemiological history, with a 95% confidence interval, 82.5% (n=66) reported having no history or underlying pathologies, 10% (n=8) had a history of bronchial asthma. The history of vaccination against COVID-19 was favorable in 98.8% (n=79). The type of vaccine was Sinopharm in 85.0% (n=68), 57.6% (n=46) received the second dose. Conclusions: The nursing students had an average age of 21 years, the majority were female, from the Girardot Municipality, students in the last three years of their nursing degree, who carried out their clinical practices in the different rotation areas: Emergency Adults, gynecology and obstetrics, internal medicine, pediatrics and childcare, with a history of bronchial asthma, almost all vaccinated with Sinopharm and with an incomplete vaccination schedule.
