Abstract

Introduction: the informal caregiver is the person who provides help and support to the person with a disability that hinders the normal development of their vital activities, usually, they are family or friends who are in charge of caring for the cancer patient. Objective: to identify the level of stress due to overload in the informal caregiver of cancer patients at home. Methods: a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach was carried out, using a non-probabilistic, linear chain-type sampling. For the collection of information, a field design was used, employing a semi-structured interview with 8 participants, where they were subsequently transcribed, allowing a categorization, subcategorization and coding of results. Results: informal caregivers spend 6 to 24 hours a day caring for cancer patients, since as the disease progresses, the patient becomes dependent, needing assistance with nutrition and hygiene, generating physical overload, which caused desertion. student and job resignation, becoming the primary care of their relative, also due to the absence of academic training, informal caregivers presented emotional disorders such as stress, low self-esteem, loneliness, depression Gand insomnia. Conclusion: the stress due to overload in the informal caregiver of oncology patients at home is caused by the drastic change in the personal life of the caregiver, that is, the daily routine in combination with the care of the relative leads to physical exhaustion and Social.
