Abstract

Introduction: It is important to know the problems that occur with the natural aging process, considerably affecting performance in physical actions, daily activities, as well as health and well-being. The problem of altered postural biomechanics leads to a risk of falls in older adults.

Objective: To analyze the importance of postural correction in biomechanical reeducation in older adults.

Material and Methods: The methodological design has a quasi-experimental quantitative approach. Through an Adams test, scoliosis and muscle weakness in the lower limbs were evaluated with the Tinetti and Daniels scales, in 21 older adults aged 65 to 85 years, after signing the informed consent. The Physiotherapeutic intervention was carried out for 12 weeks with home visits. In the intervention, the exercises were applied progressively until reaching the maximum potential of each older adult according to their physical capacity.

Results: The data were processed using the statistical program SPSS version 25.0. Moderate scoliosis was found in 42.9%. The Tinetti Test shows running before the intervention in 66.7%, after the intervention 71.4% considered good, Tinetti in balance before the intervention is good in 52.4%, after the intervention 33,3%

With the Daniels scale that measures muscle strength, 47.3% before the intervention showed that muscle strength in the lower right limb, 38.1% after the intervention is good, in the lower left limb before the intervention 38, 1% after the intervention is 23.8%. By performing the hypothesis testing test through Wilcoxon and Mcnemar, the need for an intervention to correct the problem in the population selected for the study was demonstrated.

Conclusion: The intervention of the application of therapeutic exercises for Scoliosis and Muscular Weakness in Lower Limbs was effective, with satisfactory results.
