FACTORS INFLUENCING HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS VACCINE ACCEPTABILITY IN PARENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common infection in the reproductive system and it can lead to certain types of cancer. HPV vaccination is key to combating this infection, and it is crucial to understand the barriers that affect the uptake of immunization, especially among parents. Objective: To analyze the available scientific evidence on the factors that influence the acceptability of the HPV vaccine in parents. Methods: The review followed the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and the guidelines of the PRISMA guide adapted to scoping reviews. Several databases were searched, including PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs, SciELO and Google Scholar, using RAYYAN software to select evidence. Results: A total of 16 studies were analyzed which revealed that the main barriers included lack of information about the vaccine, fear of adverse effects, the perception that children are not the right age for vaccination, the influence of customs and ingrained beliefs. Conclusions: The evidence highlights the need to implement strategies that provide clear and accurate information, also addressing perceptions and ingrained beliefs to improve vaccine uptake.
