Medicinal potential of Camellia sinensis

Abstract
Introduction Since time immemorial, plants have been used as therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of
various pathologies. Camellia sinensis is a plant native to southern China and Southeast Asia, although it is
currently cultivated worldwide in tropical and suptropical regions. Various health effects of tea have been
described, associated with its main component tannin, among which treatment against cardiovascular, inflammatory bowel, neurodegenerative, cancer, asthma, diabetes, hepatitis, among others, is mentioned.
Objective: This review aims to document the effects on coagulation, fibrinolysis and hemostasis of Camellia
sinensis as well as its antimicrobial potential, in order to establish its use in the treatment of different conditions.
Material and methods: A systematic review was carried out through the search of various studies carried out
in recent years in scientific search engines through Boolean operators.
Results: Se obtuvo un metaanálisis que evidencia el potencial medicinal de la Camellia sinensis.
Conclusions: It is of utmost importance to encourage the ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants with therapeutic
potential and their effect on various human pathologies as possible agents and / or adjuvants in existing
treatments.
