Abstract

Introduction: The management of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women represents a challenge due to the series of physiological changes they present, as well as the concern about fetal implications. Objective: To review the available information about SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women, in order to determine the epidemiological behavior of the infection, as well as to establish recommendations regarding management and immunization in this population group. Methodology: A systematic search for scientific information was carried out in available databases such as Pubmed Central, Redalyc, Scielo, ScienceDirect, and the WHO institutional page. Searches and effective retrieval of information were carried out, selecting indexed articles published from 2020 onwards, in english and spanish that include review articles, systematic bibliographic review and clinical case reports. Results: 23 articles and documents of scientific interest were available to carry out this review. Within the relevant data, a mortality rate of 1% is estimated in pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2, apparently there is a higher risk in this group of admission to the Intensive Care Unit, of the need for mechanical ventilation and of death, Additionally, there is evidence of an increased risk of premature delivery, possibly of iatrogenic origin. There is no evidence that the main treatments available for the management of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection represent a potential risk to the fetus, finally, the effectiveness of the vaccines has been similar in pregnant women compared to non-pregnant and non-pregnant women. appear to be at risk of harm to the mother or fetus. Conclusions: The available data regarding SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women are limited, it seems that pregnant women have a higher probability of having serious complications, however, there are no major limitations to apply pharmacological management, finally it was should encourage vaccination in this group.
